Women & Girl's Cricket 2024

After an enjoyable first year, we are delighted that all three of our teams; U15, U13 and U11 ended the 2023 season as County League Champions.

At the presentation night at Emirates Old Trafford, we were also awarded 'Lancashire Girls' Club of the Year' - quite some going for our first year with a Girls' Section.  

Going into 2024 we aim to continue supporting and encouraging the positive growth of girls' cricket within the club and the wider area.

2024 sees the introduction of an Open-age (13+ / senior women's) T20 team alongside the 3 existing junior teams; and whilst the landscape continues to emerge for the women and girls' game, we will continue to work towards effective integration into mixed teams at both junior and senior levels.

​

Junior Girl Members at Edgworth can play and train in both junior mixed groups and/or within the girl only teams and sessions.  Guidance recognises the fact that girls may transfer to soft to hard ball at different rates and that continuity of playing and training experience may be inconsistent.  At the higher performance levels, some girls thrive best with access to both forms of the game - playing in a girls' team in addition to mixed juniors.  In addition, at the earlier development and basic stages; playing within a mixed junior system allows girls to drop down a year to gain confidence and match experience where this may be helpful.  Our league teams are predominantly selected and managed as 'performance' (competitive) sides but we also arrange 'friendly' (non-competitive) in addition to this.

Girl players from other clubs are welcomed, to play in the girls' teams at Edgworth whilst retaining membership at their own club for junior mixed.  A dual status membership offer exists for this at £35 - please click here for the payment page.

• At the lower ages, U11/U9 development teams will participate in friendly matches and festival days where these can be agreed, with clubs and teams to match levels and enjoyment.

Coaches

We have a team of coaches available to work with our girls in 2024 - including Danielle Collins (Lancashire Thunder), Olivia Thomas (Lancashire Thunder), Stephen Parry (England, Lancs) in addition to other coaches from within and beyond the club. 

​

Coaching covers all standards, including Basic Skills and beginners of all ages are welcome.  The club welcomes newcomers and wants to build on the recent growth to encourage a sense of involvement in the girls' / junior squads, senior squad and the wider club environment.
