Pendle Fell Race

Posted 15/04/2011
Over the past few weeks athletes from ECRC have been competing in races across the North West. In the Pendle Fell Race last Saturday Tim Ellis (photo competing at Midgley Moor) gained his Lancashire County vest finishing 2nd in the Lancashire County Fell Championship.

Tim is returning to the form, after a five year lay off from competitive running, that saw him gain an International Vest as a Junior on the fells.  In a fast race over the testing Pendle Hill with 1500ft of climbing over 4.5 miles Tim finished 8th overall in a class field of current and past international fell runners having been in top five for the majority of the race. Consistently in the top five over the past weeks Tim is aiming for a similar result in the Inter-Counties Fell Championships to be held in Broughton, Scotland on May 28th.

Another notable competitor for ECRC at Pendle was Mike Watkinson in his first serious fell race the ex Lancashire and England Cricketer finished a creditable 168th out of a large field close to 300.

Ged Turner who only started running a few years ago has got the bug so bad he competes every weekend and last weekend was no different with Ged and fellow ECRC runner Louise Bentley competing in the Cartmel 15k Trail Race which includes the racecourse! Ged finished 185th in 1hr 51m and Louise 267th in 2hrs 24m in a large field of 301 runners.
ECRC will be fielding two teams in the postponed Calderdale way relay on May 8th and the following weekend May 14th James Brown will be attempting the Bob Graham Round in the Lake District (74 miles 42 peaks 28500ft of climbing) in 24hrs.
