Adam Syddall has taken over the Captaincy of Edgworth CC 1st XI for 2017. Guy Haynes felt it was time to step down from the role after a relatively successful second spell at the helm which ultimately resulted in a disappointing 2016 season.
The cricket committee felt the potentially daunting task would be best left to someone of Adam's experience in the field of captaincy. It won't be the first time he has led the 1st XI to victory having captained one game in the absence of Chris Locke in the 2005 season, Adam's second season as professional at Edgworth CC.
Despite leading various representative sides throughout his career it would be 2013 before Adam would take on his first official role as club 1st XI captain. After being relegated from the Cheshire County Premier League in 2012, he took the reins and captained Urmston CC to promotion the following year, his team putting together a league record breaking run of 16 wins without the aid of
an overseas player.
His experience of captaining at representative level will also be invaluable. Adam was captain of his University 1st XI, he led Cheshire County Cricket Club in their 2012 Championship season and has led a number of MCC sides including the North West Regional XI and the Secretary's XI. In their Bicentenary year, 2014, he captained the MCC at Lord's Cricket Ground and in 2016 led the Minor Counties Representative XI against the MCC, again at Lord's.
Adam has been playing county 2nd XI cricket since 1999, most recently with the 'Unicorns' (the ECB Amateur XI). He led this side at the back end of 2015 to notable victories in the County 2nd XI Trophy (most satisfyingly against Yorkshire CCC) and secured a remarkable win in a one-off game against the Elite International Cricket Academy in a one-day game at the Fortfield in Sidmouth.
He is very much looking forward to taking the reins at Edgworth and top of his priorities is a return to the GMCL Premier League: "Bouncing straight back up is tough for any relegated club side. The culture and habit of winning can be hard to bring about at first, but I firmly believe come the start of the 2017 season we will have the systems and personnel in place to do just that."
Adam has already appointed a 1st XI Vice-Captain in Liam Watkinson and it is hoped Liam will lead the side in the majority if not all the cup and T20 fixtures.Posted By: Nick Kernick On: 24/10/2016 16:20:08
