second team report 5th June 2010

The Captains preferred option of batting first & using our confident & deep batting order was again employed once the Spring view's Skipper's choice of tails came down heads! this policy is also backed up by statistics, our average 1st innings score is now an impressive 228 which has been achieved over the last few weeks by excellent contributions from Dickson, Holden, Davies, Thornton, Malik & Woodcock, all these players are consistently performing in the top order which is allowing the tail to wag vigorously with Axford, Bancroft & Simpson all adding quick runs to our totals , the teams last 3 scores are 263, 242 & against Spring view we amassed an impressive 270- 5 Nas Malik enjoying himself to 92no & Thornton 54. This type form certainly makes the Captains job a lot easier on the field & selection a lot more difficult of it.

Recently the return to form with the ball of Jack Axford has been much welcomed, he bowled brilliantly in our win over Darcy Lever in the Cup (2-42) & followed that up with 6-17 Against today's opponents, we didnt expect a difficult game against our bottom of the table guests, however the scores do not really reflect the actual contest, we have certainly played inferior opposition this season but by bowling SVCC out for 176 made for a winning margin of 94 runs & is a pretty comprehensive victory margin which should only give us confidence with the stiffer opposition to come against Elton, Blackrod & Golborne over the next few weeks.
