Minutes of the 2006 AGM

 

The meeting was held at Edgworth Cricket & Recreation club on the 14th September 2006 starting at 7.30p.m.

 

1. Apologies for absence  were received from John Clarke and Des Perryman

 

2. Minutes of the last meeting were accepted as a correct record.

 

3. President’s and Results Secretary’s Report.  Brian Frew reported on the 2005-6 season, informing the meeting that no problems had arisen and results had been submitted promptly. He reflected on the sadness felt by all at the untimely death of Peter Worsley, who had contributed so much to the League over the years. John Webster reported that Peter had enjoyed wood-turning and had carved a large rook, which JW suggested could be used as a memorial trophy to be presented to the winners of the Bolton Jamboree which he planned to run early in 2007. The proposal received unanimous support.
   The President congratulated the winners of the 2005/6 competitions, viz.:
   Division 1 Champions - Bolton A; Division 2 Champions – Chorley;
   Cup Winners – Radcliffe A; Shield Winners – Wigan; Summer League Winners – Great Lever.
   No trophies were available for presentation. Previous holders are asked to transfer them asap.

 

4. Treasurer’s Report.  John Webster presented the accounts for 2005-6 season which showed a healthy balance, though slightly down on the previous season. The accounts were accepted and it was agreed that league fees should stay at £13 for a club’s 1^st team and £7 each for subsequent teams. Unfortunately one club had not paid fees in time and its Treasurer had subsequently refused to pay the £2 per team penalty as required by the League constitution and reiterated at the 2005 AGM; the matter was however resolved at the end of the meeting. Several clubs paid the appropriate fee at the meeting and it is hoped that the remainder  will support the Treasurer and the spirit of the League by doing so promptly (payment details are in the information pack.)

 

5. Election of Officers.  The following were again elected unopposed.

6. Composition of the league divisions.  For the 2006/7 season the structure will be as follows: 
   Division 1. Bolton A, Bolton B, Chorley, Eccles, Great Lever, Radcliffe, Salford, Worsley A. 
   Division 2. Bolton Jnrs 1, Bolton Jnrs 2, Chorley Minors, Edgworth, Swinton, Wigan, Worsley B, Worsley C.

 

7. The Draw for the Cup and Shield competitions was made. The fixtures are presented in the 2006/7 information pack.

 

8. Other Issues raised and agreed during the meeting were:
   a) Teams must play as required by the constitution, i.e. they must default from the bottom board. This must be applied at the start of play. If a player arrives late they play on the bottom board (assuming the rest of the team are present).
   b) If a team does not turn up on a scheduled or rearranged date, they forfeit the fixture.
   c) These aspects of the constitution will be reviewed at the next AGM with consideration being given to penalizing teams which do not default on the bottom board.
   The meeting concluded at 8.45 p.m..

N.B. Radcliffe have a new venue. Salford’s room in the Maxwell Building tends to be a moveable feast – check at the desk.

53 MOSS SHAW WAY, RADCLIFFE. M26 3NR. CHEQUES TO BE MADE PAYABLE TO BOLTON CHESS LEAGUE. THE FEE IS £13 FOR YOUR FIRST AND £7 FOR SUBSEQUENT TEAMS.

THERE WILL BE A £2 FINE FOR TEAMS NOT SUBMITTING FEES BY 01/12/06 BUT PLEASE HELP JOHN BY MAKING PAYMENT ASAP ANYWAY.
