Part of the furniture at
Edgworth for years now, Nick has been a remarkably
consistent run-scorer over many years. Even though his
marriage meant last year was a fractured affair, Nick
still managed to win the batting averages after a string
of good contributions and not outs on his return from
honeymoon. Over the years Nick has consistently won the
averages and achieved a disproportionate number of not
outs, leading to inevitable comparison with Atherton’s
Neil Bannister, but such comparisons are unfair. A very
scratchy starter, when “in” he can be very destructive
and he hits the ball very cleanly. Also notable for his
very unorthodox fielding; his pick-up and throw, where
he at times looks like an octopus, never ceases to
amaze.Best moments:
A superb 80 (not out!!) against Blackrod on a tricky
pitch; some of his strokeplay was exhilarating. Getting
married, and the infamous “Kerny’s do” that followed,
attended by almost all of the first team
Worst moments: The
performance of the first team at Adlington on the Sunday
after “Kerny’s do”. 35-7 at one stage, the team limped
to 135 all out on a perfect batting track. At one
point 7 of the team were asleep on the boundary’s edge
as the collective hangover got too much. Being called “Kerny”,
a nickname that Nick abhors. |
