| Champion of many a
weight-lifting contest, Jon is the archetypal gentle
giant, unless you happen to be bowling at him in nets.
Fortunately Jon doesn’t net very often, but when he
does, no-one escapes his immense power and clean
striking. Capable of finding boundaries on the largest
grounds, he is potentially among the most destructive
players in the league, as witnessed memorably against
Darcy and Blackrod this year. He can, however, go into
his shell a bit in match situations. His slip fielding
has improved massively over the past year, and this,
together with his batting, will make him a key figure
next season. Best
moments: Darcy Lever away. A rapid 42 led Edgworth
to a good total, and his four excellent slip catches,
notably the ones to dismiss Bundela and Morris, were
match-winners. Jon is yet another Edgworth man about to
join the married ranks. Congratulations to him.
Worst moments: Two dropped
catches. Firstly he dropped Standish’s brilliant pro
early on when the two teams met at Edgworth. He went on
to make 99. Secondly an absolute sitter at Clifton that
has to be included just for comedy value.
